Those stinkin’ little irritants are back! My husband & I have an ongoing crusade against house ants! I could name a few excuses why we have them, but having a two-year old & two parents trying to run a business would be the lead factor. I used to be coo-coo crazy cleaner, borderline (self-diagnosed) OCD. Now I am a mom that hands her child a snack without supervision while trying to meet a deadline. I have no idea where the crumbs end up, but the ants do.
Heed the scouts. The first signs of ants in your kitchen is a warning to you. These are the scout ants checking out your home for signs of suitability to invade and their job will be to return back to the nest to inform the other ants that your kitchen is blooming with potential. Waste no time in getting to work cleaning your kitchen, sealing all food and removing all sources of sticky, sweet, greasy and foods from their access.
Thank goodness for Pinterest. I found a solution to rid the house of ants & not my son.
Borax Ant Killer Ingredients:
- 1 cup of very warm water
- ½ cup of sugar
- 2 tablespoons of borax powder (found in laundry aisle)
Mix the solution until all particles have dissolved. Dunk cotton balls in the solution. Once the cotton ball is saturated, place it on stiff paper on or near all of the trails that you see.
You should see the ants flock to these things like crazy. When the ants come to the cotton balls, the temptation is to kill them – don’t! The ants will take their new “food” back to the colony where the other ants feed off of this sugar borax solution. Once the borax gets into the colony, most of the ants will die within 24 hours.
Keep the remaining solution in the refrigerator. You may need to put out some new cotton balls with the solution a few days later. Mix well before every use. Please use as directed for safety sake & label container if you think other individuals may mistake it for something edible.
Do you currently have an invasion of ants? Does anyone else have an easy solution or suggestion to help others rid their home from these unwanted guests?
Is there a difference between Aunts vs. Ants … just kidding … my aunts read my blog, so a quick shout-out to all of them ~ I am your biggest FAN! After the last remark, I have a feeling I am going to have to host an ‘Aunt Picnic’ for them.
